Georgia Tech

And the Defense Rests.

Well, maybe they did not rest, more of an extended relaxation period. No need to work too hard when all your friends and family are watching and you could get hurt. Besides, it is much more fun to get off the field as soon as humanly possible so as to enjoy watching your buddies on offense. Sweating is clearly overrated.

So, what do you do after the offense opens the game with a terrific 10 play drive dominating the line and powering into the endzone with a statement-sealing 3 yard plunge…wait hold that answer…a drive that culminated with a devastating seal block from your senior TE Caz Purouski injured on the play who needs medical assistance to leave the field…welllll, you grab your boat drink with the orange and purple umbrella and stroll to the field and let those boys in yella score in two plays.

How about just after this travesty, and your boys on the O again march methodically down the field, scratching and clawing their way to another hard-earned TD to take control. Well, I think we should snatch our idod, punch up some Buffet and let the Jackets score in 1 play this time. Ahhh, that’s the ticket. Back to the beach, err bench. Now what?? Holy crap, our offense scored again. Damnit, this is getting old. Can someone get the blender fixed, I gotta go out there again…

Hey, our defensive braintrust – in a futile attempt to describe his inability to put our kids in a position to compete – pointed out postgame that Tech bumfuzzled us by putting a receiver in motion. Are you kidding me?! That wrinkle got “all of our assignments” mixed up and we did not have enough boys to handle their blockers. All I can say is wow. This is pre-K for the short bus crowd. Ga Tech runs it 85% of the plays. Get your safety up to the box and shoot your LB’s through the gaps run-blitzing every other play. If they throw one long and beat you deep, ask a Parrot if they want a cracker, cuz it has happened before. Even the Georgia Tech Coach admitted that they only ran three plays on us in the second half. No need to do anything else when all three were working and we did not change anything. They were so confident that not only did Tech go for it on 4th down at midfield on their first drive, but they left their punter in Atlanta because their was limited room on the team plane and the band needed an extra piccolo player this week.

Folks, I know that we may not have the best talent in the history of FSU on defense right now, but….there is not a single kid on that field that is less than a 3 star HS player. In fact, during most plays, we have between 6 and 8 HIGH SCHOOL ALL-AMERICANS playing defense including three kids (McDaniel, Bradham and Reid) considered the best at their positions in the whole country. How then Watson are we one of the three worst defenses in Division 1. Well Holmes, it might be coaching. By jove, you have done it!! This is without a doubt the most undercoached unit in Seminole History. I asked my wife last week if Adrian McPhereson may have suddenly become our D-coordinator because someone is getting paid off. I also noticed that the Preacher has taken to wearing long black overcoats and sunglasses at night while following Chuck Amato all over the field. May not be related though.

Anyhoo, the good news in all of this tinker toy explosion is that the questions about what the average fan been solved. It ain’t Jimbo children.

Our offense is just fine thank you. A 500 yard game, five straight TD passes and only when the pressure to score twice in each drive began to take hold did this unit falter. Loved how hard Jermaine Thomas ran and what else can you say about the QB. Spectacular.

A few sidenotes for the unlucky folks who may not have been in attendance…or chose not to. This was a great evening in the ballpark despite the score. Any true Nole older than the spoiled rotten (because they never knew FSU before we won 10 games a year) age of 35, who did not get a lump in their throat when the entire stadium - including and led by the students- chanted coach Bowden’s name pregame should check for a pulse. When the team walked him out like they did, the feeling built. Then we got the ball and rocketed down the field, and God could not take anymore…Lightning had to erupt…an hour and a half later we started play again, but the interim mood was no let-down. The weather delay featured a series of laugh-out-loud moments as the entire student section danced the electric slide and “Jump On it”. When the Chiefs broke out of their “Great Moments in Beethoven History” habit to dance Thriller at the half, it made it seem like it really was not 11:30 at night and only halftime…

I also feel compelled to point out that someone seriously needs to tell Coach Trickett that if he is going to slap one of his troops across the helmet so hard that Ryan McMahon’s neck snapped back, he may want to not do it on the field during a TO so that his parents have a fighting chance to potentially miss this Jackie Collins moment.

So, on we go to week 7. Things seem pretty good. Coach is digging in, Mickey is booking his December cruise to St. Thomas, and the offense has to find a way to score at halftime for us to win next Thursday night. I know that Christian has a chance but the UNC cheer squad does not count on the big scoreboard.

Go Noles!
